Most people on Urgent Rishta are exactly who they say they are. A few are not. This page explains how to protect yourself and your family, and what to do if something feels wrong.

Before you talk to anyone

• Keep your contact details private at first. Use the in-app messaging until you are comfortable. Your phone number is hidden by default, and that is deliberate.
• Check the profile is complete. Genuine members usually fill in education, family and city. A profile with almost nothing filled in and one photo deserves more caution.
• Look for the verified badge. It means the person confirmed their identity with a selfie. It is not a guarantee of everything else they say, but it does mean a real person is behind the account.

Warning signs

• Any request for money — for a visa, a medical emergency, a business problem, customs charges, or a plane ticket. This is fraud, every time.
• Rushing. Pressure to decide quickly, or to move to WhatsApp immediately, before your family has been involved.
• Refusing a video call or an in-person meeting with families present, while continuing to talk at length.
• Details that shift — age, job, income or marital status that change between conversations.
• Asking you to keep it secret from your family. Rishta is a family matter; secrecy is a warning sign in itself.
• Photos that look professional or borrowed. You can search an image on Google to see if it appears elsewhere.
• Asking for private photos. Never send them. They are used for blackmail.

Checking a proposal properly

Before any commitment, verify independently rather than taking someone's word:

• Family: meet them at their home. Ask about relatives, and speak to people who know the family in their area.
• Education: ask which institution and year, and confirm the certificate.
• Employment: ask for the employer's name and confirm it directly, not through a number they supply.
• Marital status: ask directly, and for divorced or widowed proposals, ask to see the documents. This is normal and reasonable.
• Home: visiting tells you more than any conversation.

Meeting in person

• Meet in a public place the first time, or with families present.
• Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return.
• Arrange your own transport. Do not be dependent on theirs.
• Leave if you feel uncomfortable. You owe nobody an explanation.
• For women especially: a family member present at the first meeting is normal, expected, and nobody genuine will object to it.

Protecting your account

• Use a password you do not use anywhere else.
• Never share your password or verification code — we will never ask for either.
• Control who sees your photos in your profile settings.
• Sign out on shared devices.

If something goes wrong

Report the profile. Every profile has a report option, and reports are reviewed by our team. You can also block a member so they can no longer see or contact you.

Contact us through the help page with the member's name or profile link and what happened. We take fraud and harassment seriously and remove accounts we find to be fake or abusive.

If money has been taken or you have been threatened, report it to the police as well. In Pakistan, online fraud and blackmail can be reported to the FIA Cyber Crime Wing, which is the correct route for these cases.

What we do at our end

• Profiles and photos are reviewed by our team before they appear.
• Members can verify their identity with a selfie.
• Phone numbers are hidden by default and only shared on a match.
• Reported accounts are investigated, and fake or abusive ones removed.

None of this replaces your own checks. We can remove a fake profile once we find it; we cannot confirm that everything a real person tells you is true.
